This has been a particularly hard loss to deal so I hope you will understand why I don’t wish to participate in the comments of this video. Instead, I have included my answers to questions I feel some of you may understandably ask, I would appreciate you taking the time to read through them all before leaving any comments (I also won't be replying to comments). Thank you.

When did Sulphur die?
Sulphur died on Monday 23rd April 2018

What species of hamster was he?
Sulphur was a hybridised campbells dwarf

How old was he?
He was believed to be just 7 months old.

How long do hamsters normally live?
The average lifespan is 18 - 24 months, although some will live longer than this.

Is it normal for a hamster to die so young?
Many factors play a part in a hamster's lifespan and genetics often play the biggest role. A poor genetic background can significantly shorten the life of some animals while others may live normal lifespans or longer than average. That being said, a premature death shouldn't be immediately put down to bad genetics and needs to be taken very seriously especially if you have other animals in the home of the same species. Other common causes of premature death include sickness and environmental problems and these can also affect your other pets. It’s incredibly important to sterilise the area in and around the deceased animals cage, throw away any supplies that cannot be heavily disinfected and keep a vigilant watch on your remaining animals for the next 2 - 3 weeks. If you notice anything unusual about your pets during this time take them to a vet. After disinfecting you should also leave the deceased animal's cage empty for a couple of weeks to ensure remaining bacteria cannot be passed on to any new animals.

Was Sulphur sick/showing symptoms before he died?
Sulphur was not obviously sick, he was eating, drinking and exercising as normal. He appeared bright eyed and alert right up until we found he had passed. We had no reason to suspect something might be wrong. It must be taken into consideration that prey animals are very good at hiding signs of health problems which is why regular health checks and weight checks are encouraged as these can help spot things that are otherwise hard to notice.

Did Sulphur’s fall have anything to do with his death?
We can say for certain that it did not. Sulphur’s fall happened many weeks before his passing and we were very careful to have him taken care of properly when it happened. Aside from a chipped claw (which may have happened before the fall) he was given the all-clear and his behaviour remained normal.

Have any of you other hamsters died at such a young age?
Thankfully, no. Sulphur is our youngest loss which is what makes it so much harder to deal with. Before Sulphur our youngest loss was Cookie, a female roborovski dwarf who was put to sleep at 16 months old when an inoperable tumour had taken away her quality of life. Our other 20+ hamsters that we have kept over the years passed as seniors (old aged hamsters).

What happened to Sulphurs body?
When we lose a pet we choose to bury their bodies so that they may decompose naturally.

Will you get another hamster?
At this point in time my focus is on my remaining pets and making sure I am providing them with the best life I can possibly offer. I have no plans to bring any new pets into the home right now.

Will you still be posting videos?
I’ve already taken several days of personal time to deal with the upsetting loss before posting this memorial and I'm now comfortable for my regular videos to resume as normal.

Do you have any other hamsters currently?
Yes we still have our (approx) 14 month old Syrian Iodine and our (approx) 7 month old winter white hybrid Osmium.

What Other Pets Do You Currently Have?
We have Zinc (mouse), John Hurt and Rodney (dogs), Bertie and Elizabeth (cats)
